Season's Greetings, 2024

Wishing you a nice holiday season and a Happy New Year

Hey there! Just a quick heads-up: we're making a few updates to our newsletter, which is why you might notice a different email address this time around. Rest assured, it's still your reliable IPSI Newsletter from the IPSI Secretariat.

Dear friends and partners,

Season’s greetings from the IPSI Secretariat!

As the year draws to a close, we extend our deepest gratitude to you all for your work to advance the Satoyama Initiative. We are pleased to highlight a few of our recent activities.

This fall was a busy season for multilateral negotiations, particularly the three major UN treaty negotiations known as the Rio Conventions, which focus on biodiversity conservation, climate change, and land degradation. This included the Conference of the Parties (COPs): COP16 for biodiversity in October, COP29 for climate change in November, and COP16 for desertification in December.

The IPSI Secretariat, with the support of various IPSI members, hosted and participated in various side events at these COPs. We promoted the efforts of IPSI members worldwide and showcased projects under the Satoyama Initiative, such as the Community Development and Knowledge Management for the Satoyama Initiative (COMDEKS) and the Satoyama Development Mechanism (SDM)

Additionally, we introduced our latest publication, Indicators of Resilience in Socio-ecological Production Landscapes and Seascapes (SEPLS): 2024 Edition, a tool to help local communities assess their socio-ecological resilience and develop a strategy for sustainable landscape management. As well as the annual Satoyama Initiative Thematic Review (SITR), with its next volume coming out in January 2025.

We are pleased to announce that we welcomed 24 new members to the partnership, and the Steering Committee endorsed eight Collaborative Activities.

These are just a few highlights from our recent research, policy engagement and capacity development activities. You can read about our activities in the News section of the official IPSI website, and always stay informed about our latest work and opportunities.

Thank you very much for your inspiration, support and collaboration, which have been instrumental in all of our achievements. May the coming year bring many more shared accomplishments.

With very best wishes for the holiday season and a Happy New Year,

IPSI Secretariat
